Mixed-use Infrastructure - 2024 - Newport Wetlands, Wales

Spawning from a critique of the UK governments future energy strategy; its low projection of increasing energy demands, it's over-reliance on weather dependant energy sources and failure to meet net zero targets, my research explores the potential of renewing existing fossil fuel power plants into renewable plants by way of geothermal conversion in order to provide a feasible, alternative solution to de-carbonising the electrical grid.

Expanding on the details of this particular strategy and how it can be applied at the local scale, my design proposal targets the public’s relationship with infrastructure. Aiming to improve it by utilising the waste heat produced in the steam turbine cycle of such plants to create a serene spa environment within the realm of the plant
